Marco Polo

I have dreamt of utter woe,
painted pictures of my tears,
sought to sail; yet I row
back toward my fears.
When Marco is the question,
and Polo is the answer.

Facing each holy hymn I hear
I give every effort to be content,
but see false virtue frowning back to leer
merely mocking my every attempt.
When Marco is the question,
and Polo is the answer.

Truth no longer brings justice,
irony does not help label lies,
we dare to ask for honest forgiveness
from a God that we disguise.
When Marco is the question,
and Polo is the answer.

The deaf man smiles to a jest,
there is irony in this, oh, aye,
though the man is truly blessed
it is indeed nothing but a lie.
When Marco is the question,
and Polo is the answer
I know what irony is in validity
for I need not a sayer of sooth,
for Marco to be the curiosity
and Polo to be the truth.
